What is this classic American style?

‘EDEN PRAIRIE’ FOOTSTOOL DESIGN
Description:
Square, geometrical and symmetrical pattern, reminiscent of stained glass windows from the period.
I also see in this design, a strong influence on the Post-Modernism period from the late 20th century
Colours:
Again, as described on the Prairie Style seat covers page, these colours are classic Prairie Style…soft muted taupes and grey-browns, accented by terra cotta red and gold.
However, I’ve updated it by adding more black accents to the design, to give it a more contemporary ‘edge’.
Footstool Style:
This bold design works beautifully on this handsome square leather modern footstool…
perfect for your contemporary study or library!

'ARROWHEADS’ FOOTSTOOL DESIGN
Description:
I’ve reworked the rectangular Arrowheads Seat Cover Design to create a companion square footstool design.
It still retains the truly western prairie flavour of stylized arrows as the central motif, surrounded by a border of multi-coloured rectangles.
Colours:
Just as with the seat cover design, the bold border design has a pattern of bands of mid-sky blue and cool green with red accents.
The central motif of 3 stylized arrows consist of deep red, gold and cool green and blue on a soft taupe background.
Footstool Style:
Just as with the Eden Park design, I think this dynamic design suits a simple contemporary leather footstool.
The tactile texture of the needlepoint wool is a beautiful contrast to the smooth, oxblood-coloured leather on the sides of the footstool.
'KHOSRO ETERNAL SPRING’ FOOTSTOOL DESIGN
An elegant and symbolic design showing the splendour of flowering spring!
I adapted this square footstool design from an original Khosro Persian carpet from the late 17th century, early 18th century.
ORGINAL DESIGN
The original Persian carpet was made for royalty of silk and wool, with threads of gold and silver and encrusted with emeralds and other precious jewels. It was approximately 90 feet square!
WHAT IT SYMBOLISED
The original was divided into geometric panels depicting a large garden, symbolizing, according to Persian legend, eternal paradise on earth.
The four gardens symbolically represent the garden of the soul, the heart, the spirit and the meaning or essence of life.
THE NEEDLEPOINT FOOTSTOOL DESIGN
I created two panels of the formal gardens and two panels of the fruit trees. The 4 panels are divided by canals of water, with a central fountain (complete with fish!).
The panels are surrounded internally by bands of flowers with the outer border design symbolising wheat fields.
A true garden paradise.
Each element of this design is very simple and ‘naïve’ in nature, which makes it easier to stitch than it appears.
If you want a CUSTOM SIZE , please remember that it still has to be square.
CUSTOM ‘KHOSRO’ BECOMES A FUTURE HEIRLOOM
I modified the original Persian design for the ‘KHOSRO FOOTSTOOL’ to fit a very unique request….
to incorporate 16 family names into the design!
Here’s how I did it:
The names have been purposely positioned to give the appearance of being an inherent part of the original Persian design.
The lettering for the names has been created to reflect the intricate character and scale of the overall tapestry.
Once completed, it will be a cherished family heirloom!

YURUK’ KILIM FOOTSTOOL DESIGN
DESIGN ORIGINS
This was originally a 19th century prayer rug from the Taurus mountains region that is now southern Turkey.
I’ve named the footstool design ‘Yuruk’after the semi-nomadic tribes that come from this region and who created this beautiful small prayer rug.
THE NEEDLEPOINT FOOTSTOOL DESIGN
You will notice that some details of the motif are added and/or not repeated, which, I believe, adds to its overall charm.
The design is square, available at 18” x 18” (46 x 46 cm) or 20” x 20” (approx 50 x 50 cm).
It would also make a fantastic large cushion!
The repetitive motifs in brown, blue, green and white contrast with a brilliant range of reds and red-oranges in the background of the border and central motif. Also, the central design shows a pointed arch-shaped niche; a typical motif of Persian prayer rugs.
What an ideal design for a contemporary interior with its bold graphic shapes and colours! A very unique tapestry!
BUT IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE SQUARE!
I’ve just shipped out this painted Yuruk Kilim footstool canvas (photo at right) in a custom size to fit a small rectangular footstool.

KONYA’ KILIM FOOTSTOOL DESIGN
DESIGN ORIGINS
This needlepoint footstool design is adapted from the Kilim designs from Konya, Turkey.
Konya textiles are recognized by their large polygonal central motifs often with a stepped and saw-toothed pattern.
Their designs were not only used as carpets, but also saddle-bags, salt bags, etc.
And now a needlepoint footstool!
THE NEEDLEPOINT FOOTSTOOL DESIGN
This bold central motif of a stepped pattern of red, two tones of blue, yellow and green is surrounded by a vivid red background with a typical stylized motif of 4 tulips.
I’ve adapted the original outer border design so that it can be upholstered as an edging for the footstool. This feature is optional.
‘HERIZ-SERAPI’ FOOTSTOOL DESIGN
DESIGN ORIGINS
I developed this design from the border of an antique Heriz-Serapi carpet from the 19th century. The Heriz rug district, now in Azerbaijan, is home to the Serapi rug.
The Serapi is a special quality of Heriz carpets; its unique motif is characterized by cypress trees on a background of a terra cotta colour.
It’s a perfect design for an accent piece like this small rectangular needlepoint footstool!
The upholstered sage green leather sides with terra cotta-coloured piping give it a special touch. A real jewel!
THE NEEDLEPOINT FOOTSTOOL DESIGN
Subtle colours and a more minimal pattern distinguish the Serapi from other members of the Heriz family.
This delicate and minimalist asymmetrical design of soft wheat and teal-green is set off by the rich terra cotta background.
‘ANATOLIA’ FOOTSTOOL DESIGN
This Turkish Kilim design ‘Anatolia’has three central blue medallions in a serrated motif like the pattern in the Konya Kilim footstool above.
Its bold design and primary colours of red, and blue with accents of green and yellow are an ideal combination for your contemporary home.
It’s the largest of the footstool designs I’m presenting to you. It will fit a bench footstool (also known as a table stool) of approximately 36” x 18” (92 x 46 cm).
It could also be used as needlepoint tapestry for a seat bench or a piano bench. Your choice!
Footstools, like seat benches and piano benches, come in all sizes!
Each hand-painted canvas is uniquely made for you.
So please contact me if you have a custom size. I can adjust these designs to fit!
Also more designs to follow in other styles. Keep in touch!
