NEEDLEPOINT CHINESE RUG

‘DOUBLE DRAGON’ AREA RUG

Our client asked us to paint a traditional Chinese ’Double Dragon’ Rug design on 10 gauge canvas that she saw in a book. She sent us the pages from the book…. and we took it from there!

Based on the outside border module, we established the size of the carpet….. 35 x 52 inches....... WOW!

This photo (above) of putting on the final touches after painting it for over 4 months gives you an idea of its size!

Also, thanks to the computer, we were able to determine the size of all the details on the carpet design as we went along, some of which we have included here…..

NEEDLEPOINT TABLE RUNNER

KILIM TABLE RUNNER CONCEPT DESIGN

Our client was looking for a table runner design to suit dimensions 15” x 60” ! (approx. 38 cm x 1.54 m)

Quite long!

We submitted several designs and she settled on a KILIM carpet design which we re-worked to fit her table runner dimensions.

You will note that the red background was not painted at the client’s request.

By not painting the background colour, we had to paint the detailed motif around each medallion in a light grey for our client to be able to see it to stitch!

NEEDLEPOINT WALL ART

YELLOW CACTUS FLOWER

We created a custom painting for an 18” square wall hanging taken from an image from our client.

It reminded us of the famous flower paintings by American artist, Georgia O’Keeffe!

To give our client a ‘painterly’ image like the original image sent, we mixed a similar range of colours using a shading technique that would create texture and variation.

For example, we used 12 warm colours gradated from pale yellow to dark reds for the actual flower, that, when combined, give a subtle variation in the colours and give an overall ‘painterly’ shading effect to the petals.

STITCHING IN PROGRESS!

We've just received this image of how our client's stitching is progressing - I love how she has used so many different stitches!

It's now finished and at the framer's!

SPRING DAY LILY

Our client asked us to paint this Frank LLoyd Wright stained glass pattern, Spring Day Lily,  at a custom size of 24" x 40".

SHE WILL BE STITCHING IT IN SILK AND WOOL YARNS!

WHITE FREESIAS

We created this version at its smallest size in more vivid colours as requested by our client for a wall hanging.

She will be stitiching it in silk!

NEEDLEPOINT CUSHIONS

MATISSE’S SNAIL AND

MODERNISM AND MATISSE 

These two designs are normally large 24” square cushions. 

A client asked us to create the same Matisse designs but with rectangular dimensions to suit her décor!

In these two cushions’ designs Matisse's Ivy in Flower and Art Nouveau White Iris, we changed the background colour to suit the clients’ interior.

We created this Prairie Style seat cover as a custom seat for the foyer of a Prairie Style house.

MORRIS PIANO BENCH

We painted the Morris piano bench canvas (above) for a client who wanted the border to be a combination of the darker peach and the dark blue!

What a beautiful combination!

TABRIZ SEAT BENCH 

Here we have taken the Tabriz piano bench and adapted the intricate pattern into a 10-foot-long, 3-section seat bench!

 NEEDLEPOINT FOOTSTOOLS

‘PINE CONES’ THEME 

From the original wall hanging design, we created not only the ‘Pines and Needles’ cushion design but also the custom  ‘Summer Pinecones’ footstool design.

We purposely painted the shape in the footstool as shown to fit the corners of the footstool when upholstered.

YURUK KILIM FOOTSTOOL (above left)

We created this original square design to a rectangular shape to fit our client’s footstool.

KHOSRO FOOTSTOOL (above right)

Look closely! We modified the original Persian design to fit a very unique request….

to incorporate 16 family names into the design!

The names have been purposely positioned to give the appearance of being an inherent part of the original Persian design.

NEEDLEPOINT HANDBAGS

Instead of using the standard half-zippered pocket on the back of the bag, our client requested the same design on the full back of the bag with a break in the design for the zipper!

We made the design changes and painted the back in two sections to allow for the zipper.
