Clutch bags always add an elegant and totally feminine ‘look’ to your favourite cocktail dress or evening wear.
The selection of the right clutch bag is as important as your choice of shoes and jewellery for a complete ‘put together’ style.
For a very unique slant on clutch bags, why not try stitching one of these elegant needlepoint designs from ZIVA?
I’ve divided these elegant clutch bag designs into three categories:
CLUTCH BAG STRAPS: New needlepoint strap bands that can be stitched and added to easy-to-sew clutch bags.
CLUTCH BAG FLAPS : Needlepoint front flaps for making up easy-to-sew clutch bags.
FULL CLUTCH BAGS: Clutch Bag Designs which coordinate with ZIVA’s handbags
Are you looking for a needlepoint project that isn’t too large to stitch?
Do you like to sew as long as the sewing pattern isn’t too difficult?
Do you prefer sewing your own needlepoint tapestry and skip the expense of paying for a professional?
THEN TRY THIS NEW IDEA FROM ZIVA!
I’ve created two new clutch bag strap designs that can be added to a bag that you can sew yourself!
Here’s how it works:
The needlepoint strap is approx 3.5” x 13”( 9 cm x 33 cm)
The total clutch bag is about 13” x 8” (33 cm x 20 cm).
HOW DO YOU WEAR IT?
As you see above how our model is wearing it, you slide your hand behind the needlepoint strap and clutch it that way.
It means you can carry the bag more securely and also it adds a lovely colourful accent to your wrist and outfit.
What could be simpler!
Another one of Matisse’s cut-out designs‘Sea Creatures’ (‘Bêtes de Mer’) is THE perfect bold graphic design I was looking for to create one of my clutch bag straps!
The full range of vivid background colours (stitched here in bright cotton yarn) is an ideal backdrop for Matisse’s multitude of sea creatures!
I made up the bag in a black wool fabric for ultimate contrast, but you could pick out any one of the background colours to match one of your favourite outfits.
A perfect fashion accessory!
A true DECO delight!
I developed this Art Deco graphic design ‘Miami Deco’ in a range of accent colours
...pink, rose, turquoise, blue and mauves...
that remind me of the Deco architecture in Miami from the 1930’s.
This time I used a grey fabric for making up the clutch bag, which picks out the grey in the diamond shapes in the motif.
Again the actual colour of the bag is your choice.
If you’re looking for a clutch bag to stitch that’s a little larger than the straps you see above, why not try a clutch bag flap?
Making-up pattern and instructions are included in the kit.
All you have to do is incorporate the tapestry when you are sewing the clutch bag.
It’s that easy!
Striking primary colours of cobalt blue, and yellow with an accent of a vivid red globe make up this bold and geometric 1930’s CUBIST design!
To update it, I added more black than the original 30’s design had, and included a range of warm greys.
It suits to-day’s casual chic styles, but would also work with a classic black dress.
You also have the option of adding a shoulder chain.
The rest of the bag is made up in taupe-coloured synthetic leather. But any heavy wool fabric will work as well.
PAINTING NOW COMPLETE!
This very geometric design required very precise painting! Each stitch is counted for making your stitching a pleasure.
It's now ready to ship out!
Another Matisse cut-out design!
This design “Le Lanceur de Couteaux” (The Knife Thrower) also originated from Matisse’s “JAZZ” portfolio from 1947, again with a circus theme.
This lyrical design will add a dramatic accent to any outfit!
The soft mauve of the female figure is contrasted by the bright fuchsia of the knife thrower.
You can feel the action just by Matisse’s use of colour!
ZIVA’s small purse “Under the Big Top” also comes from this same “JAZZ” series.
We have several needlepoint designs inspired by Matisse's cut-outs!
Go to Ziva SiteSearch and type in ‘Matisse’ to see the others------from small purses, bracelets, and cushions to the ‘Sea Creatures’ and 'Knife Thrower' clutch bags featured above.
You can make up the rest of the bag in black simulated leather or black fabric for ultimate contrast with Matisse’s energetic design.
Isn’t amazing how the design and colours of this tapestry set off a simple white blouse and black pants!
Fun to make yourself and fun to wear!
Just putting on the finishing touches.... ready to stitch!
THREE WAYS TO STITCH THIS ELEGANT BAG!
You could stitch it just once (above) and use a black fabric for the back of the bag..... OR , you could also make up this motif as a flap to a clutch bag......
.... OR you could stitch it twice and fold it once to create the same design front and back (as shown in top left)....
....OR you could stitch it one more bag side height and add one small peacock feather peeking through (as shown in top right)! This way it would be folded twice, like an envelope, to complete the entire bag - it only has to be lined!
ET VOILA!
A CHIC BAG THAT GOES WITH EVERYTHING!
We’ve adapted an iconic Art Nouveau motif to create a bright, energetic, contemporary clutch bag design called ‘White Tulips’.
The motif is 100% Art Nouveau, and the colours were selected from the classic Art Nouveau palette of gold, mustard, turquoise, duck egg blue, and rusty red.
Finished stitched size for the clutch bag:
13” x 7.75” (approx. 33 x 19.5 cm).
You could stitch it once, with a complementary colour of fabric for the back of the bag….. or, you could stitch it twice for both the front and back of the clutch bag.
If you prefer, you could make up this motif as a flap to a clutch bag…. just let us know when ordering!
Look how perfectly this youthful design works with to-day’s fashions!
A great accent to wear with your summer clothes!
I had a wonderful experience studying artist Gustav Klimt's paintings and textiles when designing a free compact case for ZIVA’s 17th newsletter.
So I decided to keep going and create two eye-catching clutch bag designs…. thanks to the genius of Klimt!
I wanted to develop ‘envelope-style’ clutch bag designs inspired by Klimt’s textiles and create an abstract layered textural effect as seen so extensively in his paintings.
Click here for more about Klimt and to have a look at our free compact case design.
EASY TO MAKE-UP!
Each clutch bag design is stitched entirely on one rectangular piece of canvas and then folded twice (like an envelope) to create a clutch with a front flap.
Sew the sides, add some lining and a flap fastener and your clutch bag is ready to wear with your favourite outfit!
Stitched area dimensions: 21” x 12” (53 x 30 cm) or 26” x 15” (66 x 38 cm)
Finished folded clutch bag sizes: approximately 8” x 12” (20 x 30 cm), or 10” x 15” (25 x 38 cm)
‘Sparkling Bubbles’ Clutch Bag Design
What a wonderfully festive design! It reminds me of effervescent bubbles of champagne!
The gold ‘bubbles’, accented with vivid multi-colours of blue, green, black, yellow, orange, etc., are floating on a vibrant, rich red background.
In keeping with Klimt’s textile layering, we added the classic Klimt spiral design with gold spirals on a black background.
Dynamic!
‘Ramblin’ Rose’ Clutch Bag Design
Another adaptation of one of Klimt’s textiles, but this time a more subtle, intricate motif, with a rich blue background.
The free-flowing turquoise stems connect a multi-coloured palette of abstract roses, from soft gold and copper to vivid red and bold white.Pale mauve and blue leaves complete this delicate textile design.
I'm just painting the finishing touches on the Ramblin' Rose design before sending it out..... I thought you'd like to see it! |
Our model, wearing a simple deep purple cocktail dress, adds a distinctive and stylish touch to her ensemble with the ‘CAT BLUES’ clutch bag from ZIVA.
The soft blue and purple background colours are an elegant backdrop to the crisp black outline of this ART DECO design.
A classic basic black (or blue) dress would also work well with this clutch bag.
Also, those of you who prefer pantsuits for evening wear would appreciate its tailored, yet still feminine, look.
This geometric ART DECO design of greys and wheat colours is accented with bold cranberry red and teal to create a dramatic clutch bag.
There are so many neutral greys, taupes or wheat colours you could wear with this clutch bag. And black, of course
Or you could pick out one of its accent colours if you’re truly daring!
Our model shows how well it coordinates with her teal silk dress.
An added bonus…its very graphic design makes it easy to stitch!
And don’t forget this delicate ART NOUVEAU clutch bag design ‘Iris Buds’ !
I introduced it to you with the handbag design ‘Dutch Irises’ .
It looks perfect with this basic black cocktail dress!
