This handbag design is a riot of bright primary colours!
Its ‘Cubist’ forms evoke the powerhouse of early ‘modernism’ of the 1920’s and the bold styles of the Jazz Age!
What an amazing impact this period and its principles has had on design! And on me!
When I was a furniture and interior design student many years ago, we were completely steeped in the study of the Bauhaus, the School of Architecture and Decorative Arts from Germany in the 1920’s.
The Bauhaus became the centre of dynamic ‘modern’ creativity, which has influenced interior design, the decorative arts and architecture ever since!
What a personal pleasure it was for me to create a contemporary needlepoint bag inspired by this influential design movement!
The design has multicoloured geometric ‘cubes’ on the left of the needlepoint tapestry contrasted by a wavy pattern of bright reds, pinks, purple-blues and caramels on the right!
The grey colours in the design will blend well with the neutrals of your wardrobe.
Typical of the simplicity and boldness of the Bauhaus period!
This versatile belt bag is very secure on your body. Here our model has put it on a simple silver chain, which slides through a long channel on the back of the bag.
Because of its particular size, you can wear the belt bag as a colour accent to your outfit, as you would any belt or scarf or piece
of jewellery.
But it’s still large enough for your cell phone, a few credit cards,
keys and lipstick!
Great at cocktail parties or barbeques when you’re juggling
food and drinks.
You could also add a strap to make up a striking shoulder bag.
This Bauhaus Boogie Woogie handbag design is a riot of colour that goes with everything!
Our model is wearing it with casual pants and top in taupe-grey and a purple-blue cardigan. This time she has slipped the bag onto a thin leather belt.
It also works well in the summer with brightly coloured sandals and t-shirts such as red or turquoise.
Even a simple pair of black jeans and a black t-shirt will look dramatic coupled with this dynamic handbag.
Endless possibilities!
Also, because of its colour versatility and contemporary feel, this Bauhaus-inspired design would also lend itself well as a larger very colourful needlepoint handbag.
It would certainly go with any wardrobe!
What a wonderful experience for me personally to create this handbag design with its Bauhaus roots to the ZIVA VOGUE Collection.
A wonderful couple asked me to come up with this Boogie Woogie design for an evening bag.
She was very specific of the colours she wanted… red, black, white, gold and silver, and her husband wanted to stitch it!
Doesn’t the bag look fantastic with her elegant black top and white pants?
Thank you both for sharing your photos with us!
Here is a close-up of the fruits of his labours……..
