THE ELEGANT ART DECO PERIOD
1920 - 1940

Our ART DECO evening bags were inspired by the decorative arts of the 1920's and 1930's in Europe and America, which sprang from the Paris Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes in 1925.

Art Deco’s influence on the modern world was immense, affecting the designs of skyscrapers and cinemas, trains and cars, silverware, jewellery,....and furniture and furnishings, interiors, fashion and textiles.

The Art Deco vogue for a sleek, streamlined style, was influenced by archaeological finds in Egypt and Africa, Diaghilev's Ballets Russes,.... 

and most importantly, Cubism, with its abstract shapes and geometric patterns.

Have a look at ZIVA’s Collection of ART DECO area carpets for excellent examples of its influence on textiles from the period.

ART DECO fashion introduced printed fabrics, geometric shapes and long simplified lines, bias cut dresses for more ease and comfort. 

Women’s new liberating outfits saw shorter day dresses, actually up to the knee! 

The fashion designers of the era, such as Paul Poiret, Coco Chanel and Elsa Schiaparelli, created designs that supported the movements of the body of the modern women.

Comfort was essential, but elegance was not sacrificed!

 

DAZZLING DECO EVENING BAGS
FOR THAT SPECIAL EVENING!

We created two stunning handbags designs, called ‘DECO DYNAMICS DUO’, based just on ONE ART DECO 5" square module! 

THE DESIGN CONCEPT -

SHOULDER BAG OR CLUTCH BAG?

THE DESIGN

SHOULDER BAG

We turned and flipped the basic Art Deco design module to create four small panels to form this stylish SHOULDER BAG.

Stitch the 4 panels once, with a lovely silk fabric for the back or stitch them twice - front and back! Add a satin cord (as shown) or a chain.

Très chic!

 

CLUTCH BAG

Or do you prefer a CLUTCH BAG for evening wear? With just two mirrored-panel modules, this stunning clutch bag is created! 

You can make it up as a flap or use it as the entire front panel of your clutch bag (as shown).  

THE COLOURS

To stay pure to the colours of the ART DECO era, we chose a range of neutrals; black, 3 greys, and white.

We added a warm palette of soft golden wheat and rose colours, again in keeping with the period.

Of course, you may have a certain dress or outfit in mind, so you could change the wheat and rose to suit your wardrobe. 

 FEATURE STITCH

The COUCHING STITCH was selected to add depth to the central 'rib' of the motif to emphasize its shape and direction.

We also added silver thread to give it some BLING!

The Gobelin Stitch was also suggested for the two other 'ribs'.

BASIC ART DECO MOTIF?

For example, you could make a rectangular cushion, 4 modules wide by 3 modules high, ....

OR

by using different combinations, you could create a stunning ART DECO cushion 4 modules square (as shown).
