Let’s go through the creative process……
First, we thoroughly researched the classic ancient Chinese designs from books and the internet.
After a bit of trial and error of over 20 hours, we decided on these two elements……
We then combined these elements, the ancient Chinese star shape with spiral flower, and modified the border motif, to finalize the design, like this……
There was the yin-yang theory and five-color system used for centuries in Chinese fabrics and textiles in a range or on their own of mainly a vivid red, dark blue, and/or yellow plus neutrals of white, and black.
Sometimes we would see dark red-brown, soft peaches, turquoises or a strong green.
This ancient silk textile gives you an idea of how these colours were used.
We took these colours and used them to create three free cushion designs for you!
Voila!
With emphasizing gold on the border motif and a red centre background, we developed a more delicate design, with a soft peach-beige background around the star and on the spiral flower.
It looks very elegant and fits in well on this traditional sofa, particularly with the very classic gold wallpaper.
A much bolder design!
In this colour scheme, we used the same colours, except we changed the peach colour for an off-white for more contrast.
We also distributed the colours so the emphasis
is more on the blue.
This stronger distribution of colours would work well also in modern-styled neutral interiors with contemporary furniture!.
Perfect for all stitchers, and particularly for beginners!
Because the circle is probably the most important shape in Chinese culture, we took the same outside borders and changed the centre design to a traditional Chinese circular symbol.
Being an essential part of Taoism and Chinese medical philosophies, the circle represents the state of harmony, the balance between the yin and yang, and the duality of nature.
